Environments at Work (EAW) completed the installation of furniture for NorDx’s new 63,000sf facility in Scarborough, Maine. The facility provides comprehensive laboratory services to hospitals, networks, physician offices, post-acute and long-term care providers, managed care organizations, and employer groups throughout the region. The new facility is comprised of administrative offices and laboratory departments.

EAW provided lab benches and storage space for technicians in the laboratory department, installed 90 workstations for administration and furnished a conference room. The design challenge was to introduce a more lean storage solution to the space to meet the specific needs of the departments while maintaining a smaller kit of parts. EAW teamed with NorDx project managers and met with each department to understand the workflow and use lean process management to apply appropriate product solutions. A system of modular materials management was selected, which provided an adaptable casework system that would allow for a user-adjustable storage cart system and heavy duty material applications.
